Chicken Reef is a vibrant dive site in the Dampier Strait area of Raja Ampat, offering a rich and colorful reef experience on a coral slope descending to about 27 meters. The site features excellent hard coral coverage with table corals, staghorn formations, and brain corals, interspersed with soft corals and sea fans that create a diverse underwater landscape. The healthy reef supports impressive fish populations including schools of fusiliers, sweetlips, and surgeonfish, while wobbegong sharks rest under coral overhangs and hawksbill turtles cruise past. The shallower sections are alive with clouds of anthias and damselfish, and macro enthusiasts will find nudibranchs, flatworms, and shrimp gobies among the coral heads. Moderate currents and intermediate-friendly depths make Chicken Reef an accessible dive that showcases Raja Ampat's famous biodiversity without the challenging conditions of the strait's more exposed sites.
